Weather Era

Privacy Policy

Weather Era is a free weather service. This page explains — in plain language — what data we handle, why, and the choices you have.

Last updated: October 21, 2026

1. What we collect

Weather Era is designed to work with as little personal data as possible. Depending on how you use the site, we may process:

  • Weather queries. The coordinates of the city you view, so we can fetch the forecast. Queries are not linked to your identity.
  • Approximate location (optional). If you allow browser location access, we use it to show your local weather. If you decline, we fall back to a coarse city-level estimate derived from your IP address. Both happen without storing your exact position.
  • Local preferences. Your unit (°C/°F) and recent searches are stored in your browser via localStorage — they never leave your device.
  • Referral information. When you arrive from an external site or app, we record which domain referred you (for example a search engine or an AI assistant). We store the domain and landing page only — never your identity, and never the full URL you came from.
  • Server logs. Our infrastructure providers keep short-lived technical logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp) for security and abuse prevention.

2. Cookies and advertising

Weather Era sets no tracking cookies of its own. We do display advertising through Google AdSense, which may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads:

  • Google and its partners may use advertising cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings or via aboutads.info. Non-personalised ads will still be shown in some regions.
  • We keep advertising deliberately light: at most two manual placements per page, never interstitials, and none inside weather content.

3. Third-party services

  • Open-Meteo — forecast and air-quality data (open-meteo.com, CC BY 4.0).
  • Cloudflare — CDN, security and privacy-first web analytics.
  • BigDataCloud / ipwho.is — city-level IP geolocation used only as a fallback when browser location is unavailable.

These providers act as independent data controllers for their own logs; see their respective privacy policies for details.

4. Children

Weather Era is a general-audience service and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

5. Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. EU/EEA under GDPR, California under CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data, or to object to processing. Because we collect almost no identifiable data, most requests will simply confirm that we hold nothing about you. To exercise any right, email us using the address on our Contact page.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
